Open abayas are one of those things that make sense to own more than one of.

We know. Convenient coming from us.

But hear us out.

A simple kimono and a crystal-embellished abaya might technically both be open styles, but they're doing very different jobs in your wardrobe.

One is coming to Tesco with you. The other absolutely isn't.

So, if you're looking for an open abaya, these are five styles we'd have on the list.

1. The Pleated Silhouette Abaya

This is an everyday one, but not a boring everyday one.

The pleated silhouette gives it a little more shape and movement than a completely plain open abaya, while still being easy enough to wear without thinking too much about it.

Layer it over a simple slip, add a hijab and that's pretty much it.

It's the kind of style that works for lunch, work, running around during the day and those plans where you don't really know how dressed up everyone else is going to be.

Very useful category of abaya, actually.

2. The Naira 2 Piece Abaya

The Naira sits somewhere nicely in the middle.

Not super casual. Not someone is getting married either.

It's a two piece style, so you've already got that layered look without having to build the whole outfit yourself. Which we appreciate.

Wear it simply during the day and it doesn't feel too much. Add nicer shoes, a bag and a little jewellery and suddenly it works for dinner or an occasion too.

4. The Moroccan Embroidery Abaya

Now we're getting a little more dressed up.

Moroccan embroidery is one of those details that never really disappears from abaya wardrobes. It has that traditional feel to it, but depending on how you style it, it can still look really modern.

The embroidery also means you don't need to do loads with everything else.

Actually, we'd probably keep everything else quite simple.

A nice hijab, a small bag, maybe some jewellery.

Done.

This is the one for dinners, Eid, family gatherings and occasions where the Simple Kimono probably isn't quite enough.

5. The Multi Crystal Embellished Sheer Overlay Abaya

Okay. This one is not pretending to be casual.

And we wouldn't want it to.

Our crystal embellished overlay styles have been some of the most loved pieces this year, and honestly, we get it.

The sheer overlay gives you all that movement and then the crystal detailing catches the light as you move. It's definitely an occasion abaya. Weddings, Eid, evening events, celebrations...

It doesn't really describe one particular look anymore.

You can go simple and everyday with a kimono, somewhere in the middle with the Naira, add embroidery when you want something a little more special or go completely the other direction with crystals and a sheer overlay.
